DASA stands for Direct Admission of Students Abroad. Its central body governed by the Ministry of Human Resource Development in India. It basically takes care of implementations in the Central Engineering Institutes (other than IITs). This agency basically facilitates the rights of the Foreign Nationals (FNs), studying in any foreign country. These foreign students can be regarded as any of these:
- Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs)
- Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs)
- Non-Residents of India (NRIs)
So! The foreign students of any of the aforementioned group can pursue Technical Education in India. Before taking admission, they should keep these directives into account:
- Aim: It aims at providing with quality education to the foreign natives in the field of engineering and technology.
- SAT: The foreign students can take admission under DASA in National Institute of Technology (NITs) and other central government funded technical institutions (excluding IITs). The students should have qualified Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) subject scores.
- Eligibility: All foreign students who fulfill the prescribed criteria of admission shall be eligible.
- Admission Criteria: The Indian nationals shall have two years of education, i.e. 11th and 12th or equivalent to them. But, the case of foreign students shall be different. Such students should have 8 years of learning experience. Besides, they must qualify the requisite examination from abroad.
- Academic Score: They should have these scores:
- SAT-II score of 1800
- 75 CGPA on a 10-point scale or 60% aggregate in all subjects for taking admission in the undergraduate programmes in NITs and other participating Institutions under DASA [Letter f. No. -10/2013-TS.III dated on 8th March 2017].
- Reservation: Out of the total, 15% seats are reserved for foreign nationals. But, this percentage could be based on supernumerary quota in different domains, except for making career in technology in India.
- Age Bar: Only applicants who are born on or after October 01, 1994 can apply for under graduation courses in India.
- Document Attestation:
- All documents should be self-attested.
- Students should have an authenticated translated copy of the qualification documents in English or Hindi.
- Residential Requirements: You should necessarily have these documents:
- A valid copy of passport/ visa issued by the respective countries
- For Nepalese, the copy of an Authenticated Citizenship Card may be submitted for not being provided with a valid passport copy.
- If father and mother are NRIs, the child shall be eligible for admission under DASA.
- The students should procure a minimum of 1800 SAT score (Physics + Chemistry + Maths II) for considering to be in the merit list.
- Fee Payment: The expatriates should [ay US$300 as registration charge and US$8000 as tuition fee as per approval of the Council of NITSER . The nationals of SAARC countries shall be eligible for 50% tuition fee waiver if they are being qualified in the examination in SAARC countries. The tuition fee structure for the CIWG (Children of Indian Workers in the Gulf Countries) shall be INR 1,25,000/ per annum. This sum can be paid in the US dollars also.
The foreign students can transfer fee under these guidelines:
- The fee should be in Indian currency.
- The payment can be transferred through RTGS/NEFT facility or NRE/NRO account.
- The refund shall be initiated in the foreign currency, if the fee had been received in it through the NRE account. On the other hand, the NRO account shall be credited with a refund in the Indian currency.
- DASA confirms e-payment within 3-4 working days from the date of transfer to reflect with the credited amount.
